A respectable showing for Suede on Sal’s turntable, especially when the other selections have been documented here as some of your personal favorites. Lol!
Dog Man Star is either people’s favorite or towards the worst (my fav!). In the band’s authorized biography, Brett Anderson stated that he had discovered acid during this time and spent a lot the sessions in a psychedelic mindset. Additionally, Bernard Butler wanted to make many songs 20+ minutes long, with 8 min solos. I’ve also read that some of the guitar parts were played by Anderson (a la Diamond Dogs) following Butler’s departure. There were also a significant arrangement changes.
When I’ve introduced the band to people, I always suggested the first 14 tracks (CD1) of Sci-Fi Lullabies, the first 11 being written by Anderson/Butler. Even the band thinks of it as some of their best and regrets not releasing those tracks as an actual album. Lots of great Bowie quotes about the band! Thanks for letting me share about a personal favorite. Namaste :)
