Curious about your thoughts on the most recent Sparks album, MAD!. Doesn’t seem to be getting the same BW celebratory recognition that recent albums have received - The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte was 2023’s Nr. 8; Steady Drip, Drip, Drip was 2020’s Nr. 5. Still processing? :)

I really like "Mad!" Not as much as their recent output. I think "Mad!" starts off weak and ends strong, and I am sure it will be on my Best Of The Year list. But many BW readers haven't been too kind to Sparks over the years, so my thought was, unless I could rave about it, I wasn't going to bother mentioning it.

Have you heard any of the Oxford American Southern Music CDs https://www.discogs.com/label/1126625-Oxford-American-Southern-Music? I have a bunch of them and they are mostly excellent and make me think of 70's free-form FM radio. I listened to #12 - Alabama yesterday and it features a huge variety of styles. Lots of new (to me) artists.

Understand. I like the album but the last two were so outstanding it currently suffers by comparison. May prove to be a grower.
Thanks for the Jon Cleary as well. :).

I couldn't find that on Amazon Music, Paul. But it did lead me to The Oxford Series, which seem to be live concerts recorded by the Miami Folk Arts Society? Maybe? Many sets by The George Lewis Ragtime Jazz Band of New Orleans and some by Paul Barbarin & His New Orleans Jazz Band. Above my pay scale to determine whether this is worth anyone's time but thought I'd mention.

I have a bucnh of them. Good stuff.

I wouldn't think the O/A CDs would be on Amazon Music. They were freebies once a year in the magazine's music issue.

I found playlists on Apple Music for the years 1997-2000, created by individuals.

Thanks for the recommendation! Hope this helps :)
