Like you, I prefer the John Fox era of Ultravox, but Vienna has always been an excellent listen for me. Foxx himself went toward keyboards and synths, sometimes more experimentally than his old band mates but occasionally with as much pop intent (e.g., The Golden Section, where his voice is wonderfully out front).
As for Johnny Marr, he’s a top guitarist and has penned many fine songs, but he should work with a singer/lyricist instead of handling that himself. Very nice that he donated the huge earnings from his recent auction of guitars and other items.

I think only Morrissey says terrible things about Johnny Marr. Lol. Enjoying the new album but, agree with Paul that his best work seems to benefit from collaboration (Bryan Ferry, The The, Electronic, Modest Mouse). His auction raised nearly $5 million for Marr’s chosen charities, the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and the Autistic Society.
