Danny Ray- All The Best (1980) ****
(Solid collection of roots reggae, featuring "Revolution Rock," a song many, including myself, first heard on The Clash's "London Calling.")
The Beatles- Let It Be: Giles Martin Mix (1970/2021)- ****
Big Youth & Prince Buster's All Stars- Chi Chi Run (1972)- ***
(Not bad collection of Big Youth toasting over reggae and ska tunes. This was the highlight.)
Steve Miller Band- Brave New World (1969)- ***1/2
Black Sabbath- S/T (1970)- ****
Tchotchke- Playin' Dumb (2025)- ***1/2
(This was better the second time around. Great arrangements, but I swear their voices got even higher than the first album.)
Soul Asylum- Let Your Dim Light Shine (1995)- ****
(One of the ten best records of the 90's. I'll stand by that.)
Utopia- Peekskill, 11/18/11 (2020)- ***1/2

Yessir! That 'Soul Asylum' album is really good stuff.
Love the Soul Asylum, and think its there best. Top Ten for 1995 might be possible, but for the entire decade? You’ve got some documented 5-star favorites for that decade (Goodbye Jumbo, Us, Teatro, Play…).
Might I humbly ask your Top Ten for nineties? :)
I'll work on it!
Thank you, sir. I really enjoyed the nineties, so I’m grateful for the replay. Lots and lots of great stuff - and I concur with all of your 5-stars (some not initially perhaps but, I got there. Lol!). Thanks for all you do :)
But...the 5 stars on "Now Playing" is the rating of my enjoyment level on that particular spin. I'm not grading the record itself. "Teatro" would not be on my Top 10 of the 90's, at least I don't think so. We'll see.
Was referencing your NYCD Cheat Sheet on Popsurfing :).
Oh! Excellent! Still, don't think "Teatro" will end up in the Top Ten. But ya never know.
Okay this is subject to change because I slapped it together very quickly. But for now, I'm going with these ten. And they aren't in any order.
Soul Asylum- Let Your Dim Light Shine
The Black Crowes- The Southern Harmony & Musical Companion
Marshall Crenshaw- Life's Too Short
Paul Westerberg- 14 Songs
Lucinda Williams- Car Wheels On Gravel Road
World Party- Goodbye Jumbo
XTC- Nonsuch
Radiohead- OK Computer
Wilco- Summerteeth
U2- Achtung Baby
(Jason Falkner- Can You Still Feel was on the list, but I realized I had 11, so I had to cut it and it wasn't easy.)
12. Fountains Of Wayne- Utopia Parkway
13. Jellyfish- Bellybutton
14. Bash & Pop- Friday Night Is Killing Me
15. Jules Shear- The Great Puzzle
16. Izzy Stradlin & The Ju Ju Hounds
17. New Radicals- Maybe You've Been Brainwashed, Too
Solid, sir. As you say, subject to change: thought some of the 2nd tier would be higher, but this ain’t easy. Impressed by your discipline as I became distracted with Alternative Country/Americana and my 10 were gone (whoops).
Thanks for doing this. Hope you enjoy your weekend :)
Today’s Nineties Top Ten (no particular order) ::
OutKast Aquemini
Depeche Mode Violater
Radiohead The Bends
Pavement Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
Tom Petty Wildflowers
U2 Achtung Baby
Portishead Dummy
PJ Harvey To Bring You My Love
The Magnetic Fields 69 Love Songs
Elliott Smith XO
Albums that might make the Top Ten tomorrow ::
Fugees The Score
Steve Earle I Feel Alright
Suede Dog Man Star
Dwight Yoakam This Time
Sinead O’Conner I Don’t Want What I Haven’t Got
Belle and Sebastian If You’re Feeling Sinister
Lloyd Cole Don’t Get Weird on Me Babe
All of these albums (and artists) remain in heavy rotation still. Avoided repeating artists (OK Computer, Wowee Zowee, etc). This is really difficult. So many didn’t make the cut, and easily could’ve. Lol! Thanks for getting the ball rolling. A good time is always had at “Now Playing 4.0”. :)
Both "Violator" and "Wildflowers" could easily round up my bottom ten.
18. Temple Of The Dog
And with pick Nr. 18, we have our first appearance by the Seattle scene. Lol!
"Badmotorfinger" was a strong consideration, as was "Superunknown," but both run a bit too long. TOTD is just right.
Nr. 18 - Julian Cope Peggy Suicide
Speaking of great records that run a bit too long!
I think of it as what The White Album might sound like if The Beatles were really serious about their psychedelic intake. :)
