Roy Harper- Stormcock- ***1/2

Elton John- A Single Man-***1/2
(Decided to revisit some of Elton's supposedly "bad" albums of the late 70's and 80's. This was a major disappointment when it was released. Gary Osborne's lyrics are third rate compared to Bernie Taupin. But this isn't a throwaway. There are at least 5 solid tracks, plus a few really good bonus tracks that are better than what made the album proper. Good revisit.)

Elton John- The Fox-**1/2
(Yeah, this is still a stinker.)

Small Faces- S/T (Decca, MONO)- ****
Massive Attack- Blue Lines-***1/2

Aerosmith- Paul's Mall, 3/20/73-****
(Legendary! My favorite Aerosmith performance.)

Dave Edmunds- Tracks On Wax 4-****
The Jam- The Gift- ****

Good luck with your Elton deep dive. I did this myself not long ago, and while I think Elton's work from 2001-2016 is a real return to form, I struggle (and I tried) to find more than an occasional good song from 1978-1997, and a few records don't even have a few, like The Fox, as you noted. Again, after 20 years of crappy records and cocaine, his work this century is shockingly good.

I have low hopes and may abort. And I agree about "this century." "Peachtree Road" rivals anything from the 70's heyday.

A Single Man was really enjoyable. Maybe not essential but, better than its reputation. For me, Songs from the West Coast can also run with those classic seventies albums. :)

Songs From The West Coast is the first in my 2001-2016 reference, and then Peachtree Road, and Captain and the KId, Diving Board, and Wonderful Crazy Night. As good a run of 5 in a row as any 5 consecutive he had in the seventies.
