Velvet Underground- White Light/White Heat (Kevin Gray MONO Master)- ****
(Everyone should listen to Side Two without interruption or distraction as a rite of passage.)

Johnnie Mae Matthews- Mama Didn't Lie- ***1/2
(Greasy Detroit R&B from a woman who was wooed by Berry Gordy for Motown but ultimately turned him down so she can do it on her own label. Some great stuff here and some average.)

Corey Glover- Hymns- ****
Jose Mauro- Obnoxious- ***
Todd Rundgren's Utopia- Another Live- ***1/2

Corey Glover- The Pledge (almost all of it) - **
(I had no idea this existed. A 2012, fan funded solo record that flew completely under my radar. It's not very good. Bad songs, awful arrangements. Unpleasant, and I am a fan.)

Danzig- II: Lucifuge- ***1/2
Utopia- An Evening With Utopia: Los Angeles, 11/24/82- ****
Keith Richards- Talk Is Cheap- ****

Side 2 of White Light/White Heat is noisy, but also has some unexpected hooks. The use of drones is not common in rock, but is common in music from Africa, Asia, etc. The Velvets show others how to use drones with these two songs, especially Sister Ray.

Thanks for highlighting Hymns - new to me. I enjoyed the groove, sir. Any thoughts on his latest, Corey Glover’s Universe released in 2024?
Love the story about ‘Sister Ray’: ‘Lou Reed says the album’s engineer was so put off by the 18-minute “Sister Ray” that he left to get coffee, complaining that no amount of money was worth listening to that crap.’ Lol! :)
