The new Joe Jackson gets better and better. Also, I can't remember the last time I listened to Mountain. "Climbing!" is fantastic.

That VH album is their best with Sammy. I love the production on that record.

Back in the early 80's, when my band Pep In The Cat was playing regularly and I was working at the copy shop, Susan Ottaviano would come in and get copies made of flyers for her band Head Cheese. We had a few fun chats. Three years later, Book Of Love came out on Sire. Def a better band name than Head Cheese. Fun record that I haven't heard since 1986.

Steve Simels' Friday question over at Power Pop was "Best Opening Song" on an album. I won't say "Party Out Of Bounds" on "Wild Planet" is the best, but Fred Schneider's "Surr-PRIZE" is pretty damn hilarious.

That Stranger Cole album is super rare and today was the first time I got to hear it. Really wacky in the best way and it will most likely end up "Reggae Album Of The Week" on Monday.

But the Tages record "Studio" takes the cake today. That one hit the spot. It also put me in the mood for the Blossom Toes, which is a close second to Tages. Thanks, Mr. Maida.

Publicly admitting my ignorance, but I've not heard of Tages before. Gonna test run that one today - thanks!

Totally agree about Party Out of Bounds. What a fun band! I immediately start having memories of hot, boring, wonderful Athens summers in the 80s when I hear those first 2 albums.

Thanks so much - I haven't pulled out Book of Love in Decades. Gives me a reason to rummage through my collection.

Tages (days in Swedish) is new to me, too. Will check it out.

Best thing I listened to yesterday was Bill Frisell - Good Dog, Happy Man (1999) which is one of his most beautiful records, 62 minutes of joy. The music is instrumental folk-rock (not a fan of “Americana” as a genre) with Greg Leisz, Victor Krauss, and Jim Keltner. Ry Cooder guests on Shenandoah.

F.U.C.K. a lot of stuff new to me today! I too have never even heard of Tages. (Usually I know the acts I'm ignorant about. This time I said, "Who? Is it rock? Reggae?") And I kept reading it as "Mountain Climbing." But what's the name of the band?? :)

By the way, "Tages' is also the name of an Etruscan prophet!

Hard to believe Joe Jackson could top that Max Champion masterpiece. But he seems to have done just that.
