Jorge Ben- A Tabua De Esmeralda (1974)- ****
(#6 on Rolling Stone's Top 100 Tropicalia albums list.)

(Third rate R&B. Album is named after The Beatles' track, which they cover, but sing "Why CAN'T we do it in the road." Bad Traffic cover, too.)

Squeeze- Trixies (2026)- ***
Rickie Lee Jones- The Other Side Of Desire (2015)- ****
Gloria Jones- Come Go With Me (1966)-****

The Left Banke- The History Of...(1985)- ***1/2
Joe Jackson- Hope & Fury (2026)- ****
The Slits- Cut (1979)- ****

That Jorge Ben album is great. I also really like R.E.M.'s Fables, though Life's Rich Pageant is a peak.
That Ben lp is just so great. Check out his self titled lp (the one with the really nice painting of him on the cover) for something very similar.
Hey pmac. Here's what I've heard from Jorge Ben. What should be next?
Samba Esquema Novo (1963) *** 1/2
Sacundin Ben Samba (1964) ** 1/2
Ben é Samba Bom (1964) ***
Jorge Ben (1969) ****
A Tabua de Esmeralda (1974) *** 1/2
Gil e Jorge (w Gilberto Gil) (1975) ****
Africa Brasil (1976) ****
I'm considering:
Fôrça Bruta (1970)
Negro é Lindo (1971)
Ben (1972)
10 Anos Depois (1973)
Out of those 4, would def spin Forca Bruta (I really like that one) and Negro. That really covers most of his better releases, but you might want to also consider Tropical (1976)- about half of it is really good, with the rest not so much.
