Todd Rundgren- Runt: Alternate April 1970 Master (1970/2023)- ****
(For 50 years I wondered if full length versions of the songs in the medley existed. Countless reissues and nothing ever turned up. Even Todd had no clue if they existed. Then without fanfare, Rhino releases a third version of "Runt," with not only a different track sequence and alternate mixes, but full versions of "Baby Let's Swing," "The Last Thing You Said," and "Don't Tie My Hands." An absolute revelation that was worth the wait.)

Todd Rundgren- Runt. The Ballad Of Todd Rundgren (1971)- ****
Jules Shear- Dreams Don't Count (2006)- ****

Dillard & Clark- The Fantastic Expedition Of...(1968)- ****

(Great album. I love the stand alone single, "Why Not Your Baby" that came out a year later, and was slapped on a few reissues. It doesn't belong on this album.)

Tom Verlaine- Dreamtime (1981)- ***1/2

Mike Viola- Paul McCarthy (2023)- ****
(My favorite record of 2023, or at least in the Top 3. Also, one of Mike Viola's best. Tried selling a copy for a month, $15, $10, $8. It got as low as $7. No takers. Such is life. In the meantime, listen to the least power pop song on the record and count how many Black Sabbath songs he references. Or how about the Verlaine references in the one below the one below?)

Bee Gees- Idea: MONO (1968)- ***1/2

I keep returning to Mike Viola's music more than I would have expected. He is on my short list to go out and see live his year. Great insight - thanks.
