6/26/25

Todd Rundgren- Lexington, 6/22/25-****
(Todd and the band sounding very inspired for his 77th birthday show. Well, not his "77th birthday show," but a show on his 77th birthday.)

U2- Achtung Baby- ****
Todd Rundgren A Cappella- ****
Squeeze- Cool For Cats- ****

Blue Oyster Cult- Agents of Fortune- ****
(Every song a winner. If you're not familiar with anything other than "Reaper" on this album, I guarantee that whatever you think the rest of this album sounds like does not.)

Dave Edmunds- Repeat When Necessary-****

Pretenders- II- ****
(I did not like this record when it came out. It felt like a lousy follow to that brilliant debut. It was only recently, maybe 2-3 years ago, when it hit me. Now I love this record and occasionally love it more than the debut.)

Echo that re: Pretenders II. Their US-only Extended Play, released earlier in 1981, was in consistent rotation for a long time. It included the UK hit singles ‘Talk of the Town’ and ‘Message of Love’ with the B-sides being outtakes from the debut (‘Cuban Slide’!). I do see the second album in my immediate future - followed by Achtung Baby and Agents of Fortune. Will see where the day goes from a very promising start. Thanks, Sal! :)

I tried BOC a few years ago and it didn't take. I'll be on vacation this week and will try Agents again whilst I sit on the beach. Love the Edmunds album (and all his stuff except the Jeff Lynne productions. Those I just like). Achtung is that rare mid period album that may be a superstar's best. To me it's way more diverse and interesting than anything they've ever done. I might be biased because it soundtracked my 20s, but I don't think so lol.

Two of the best things about the 70s and 80s are Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe.
