Allen Toussaint & Dr. John- James Booker Tribute, Jazz Fest, 4/25/97-****1/2
(This was kinda brilliant.)
Irma Thomas- Take A Look- ****
Ken Boothe- Freedom Street- ****1/2
(Essential!)
Rhiannon Giddens & Justin Robinson- What Did The Blackbird Say To The Crow (four songs)- **1/2
(I expected more from this. Or maybe I lost patience.)
Little Barrie & Malcolm Catto- Electric War (about half)- **1/2
(Opening track had promise. Then the next three were exactly the same. Mojo called this "The British version of The Meters." Hardly!)
XTC- BW's Waxworks (Personal Playlist)-****1/2
The Who- Quadrophenia- (Sides 1-3)-****
Dub Specialist- Dub Store Special- ****1/2
The Rascals- Time Peace: Greatest Hits-****
Fiction Plane- Everything Will Never Be Ok-****
(Sting's son Joe Sumner's first full length with his band Fiction Plane
killed me in 2003. Then, I got to see the band up close at a Mercury
Lounge showcase, and the room was on fire. "Everything Will Never Be
Ok" was one of my favorite records that year. This is the first time hearing it in probably 20 years and it's still fantastic! He sounds so much like his father, it's like a great lost Police record.)
Jason Falkner- Genius (Personal Playlist)- ****1/2

Oh man - Toussaint and Mac doing Booker!!!!!
I agree about the Rhiannon Giddens & Justin Robinson - there's something missing, it lacks verve, so sounds almost like a set of demos that need work.
