Dolly’s Little Sparrow album is magical! I don’t know how this is the first I’m hearing this.
But, this is what you do so well on a daily basis, sir - sharing forgotten, overlooked, and neglected classic albums.
Thank you for this!!!

Hey Anonymous, if you haven't heard it yet, make sure you also check out Dolly's The Grass Is Blue. That's the bluegrass-leaning album she made right before Little Sparrow. I would say they're two late career peaks for Dolly.

Thank you for the recommendation - I appreciate it. Listened this morning, and you’re absolutely right!
Dolly’s voice is perfect for bluegrass and her interpretations are so powerful. These two albums seem similar to the ‘back to basics’ renaissance that Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash were enjoying during this timeframe - both artists were in heavy rotation for me at the time. As were artists like Alison Krauss, Gillian Welch, and Will Oldham - I would read their interviews and search out many of their recommendations.
And yet, I don’t recall hearing anything about Dolly at this time. Perhaps people (I?) couldn’t see past/forgive her 80s gloss and big hair brand. A shame!

Thank you both for sharing! #Gratitude

So glad you liked it! Those two albums are among her best. But you're right -- she garnered some v good press, but not the amount say the Trio projects received. Halos and Horns is the final album in the bluegrass trilogy, I think. It's good but not as good as the first two. The pity is that Dolly moved on and didn't stick with bluegrass longer. Blue Smoke is about the only decent album she's recorded since then, though I may have missed something. Oh well. Maybe the rock n roll album will deliver, though with a bunch of celebrity guests I'm not hopeful.
