Is New York Lou Reed's best album? Sometimes I think it is. It's his most consistently good album, in my view. Although I always deduct a couple of points because he repeats the "Statue of Bigotry" line in a couple of songs. He was pretty pleased with himself on that one.

Bill,
Like you, I sometimes think it is. It evokes a very specific time for me. I saw Lou on Broadway touring the record, I started a new job, I started dating the woman who is now my wife. Lots of memories evoked the second the needle drops. But if I had to pick nits, it always feels too long right around "Sick Of You," "Mr Waldheim." Still right up there with the first three.

I think we were at the same show! I had moved to NYC just a couple of years before the album was released, so it was kind of cool to know a good chunk of the things Lou was writing about.

And suddenly it's 34 years later!
