Stereo? I'm all about the Mono since that's what George and the boys put all their effort into. Any reason not to favor the mono? Stereo LP? It's what you grew up with? I won't say it's superior as such, just that it's the "director's cut" so to speak. Thoughts?
When The Beatles remasters were released in 2009, Ringo said something like, "I know everyone likes the mono, but I prefer the stereo."
I bought both CD sets, but mostly for the differences in the mixes, some subtle like hearing the congas and Jerry Lee Lewis piano louder in "Rock N Roll Music" on the mono "For Sale"--some obvious--"White Album," "Pepper," etc. I only bought the MONO on vinyl, which is my preferred way of listening.
Then a few years ago, a guy in my now defunct Facebook vinyl group, mentioned how he thought "Help" was the only one that sounded better in stereo. He thought the mono mix was lifeless compared to the other earlier albums and that the stereo jumped out at you, with certain songs like "Help," "Ticket To Ride" and "You're Gonna Lose That Girl" all benefitting from the bigger, wider sound.
He was right. It's the only album that I own both the mono and stereo.
I also own both recent stereo remixes--"Pepper" & "White"---which I do occasionally play and enjoy.
And, I own the original MONO US "Second Album" because it's a great rocker and was my entry as kid, and a 1978 US "Yesterday & Today" because a)I love the track list and b) they use true stereo mixes of a number of songs whichs sound amazing. I play those two more than anything.
