How I want that Richard and Linda Thompson boxed set!!!
Are you bothered now by The Night They Drove Ole Dixie Down? I mean, I always say it as a self-mythologizing by a defeated South kidding itself and weeping over its loss -- didn't everyone? I guess it does it so well and makes you feel some empathy and that maybe something WAS lost (It wasn't; good riddance) and that's why people are bothered by it? I get the objection intellectually but I love it. I also sing along to Sweet Home Alabama the same way I laughed along with Archie Bunker if he sometimes scored a point. He always lost the argument but that doesn't mean I can't smile at a good retort.
