I was reminded by my friend cmealha of a post I had written in 2022 about bands with gimmicks, one of which was The Courettes. I had totally forgotten about them, but cmealha recommended their most recent album, promising it was better than their 2022 release. He was right. Here is that post, if interested.
Here's something I should have known. I was surprised to find out that Johnny Ace, who had a hit with "Pledging My Love," was first a piano player in the Beale Streeters Blues Band, with guitarist Riley "B.B." King and singer Bobby Bland. What a band.

I am not enough of a Kinks expert, but my personal favorite Kinks album (after Village Green) is Muswell Hillbillies.
But I would have listened to none of them without your advocacy oer the years.
The Courettes latest is on my Top 10 so far this year..
Please add Junior Parker (he of “Mystery Train” and “Take Me to the River” posthumous dedication) to the Beale Streeters roster. What a band indeed. And thank you for the start of a wonderful listening experience. Little Junior Parker & The Blue Flames’ 2023 Sun Records Originals: Mystery Train proved to be 30 mins of OG gold. (Learned that Elvis’ cover of “Mystery Train” replaced the original riff with the riff from Parker’s hit “Look My Baby”) ::

Did not know that about Junior Parker. Seems like a major omission by Nick Tosches, who wrote about the other three.
Today’s Cover Version is choice, sir. A slinky groove later sampled by Cypress Hill (“I Wanna Get High”). Black Sunday wasn’t on my agenda today but, it sure sounds nice this morning. BW is always full of surprises. Thanks :)
