Donna Summer- I Remember Yesterday- **
(Not even the brilliant "I Feel Love" could save this record.)

NRBQ- S/T (Kevin Gray Master) - *****
(One of the greatest debuts, and certainly one of the most unique. This reissue on Omnivore, with the genius Kevin Gray working the boards, makes this record sound better than ever.)

(And speaking of sound, this pressing is one of the greatest sounding records I've ever heard.)

Jimi Hendrix Experience- Axis: Bold As Love (MONO)- ****1/2
(My favorite Jimi. But this is really Mitch Mitchell's show.)

Ike & Tina Turner- The Ike & Tina Turner Story (Disc One)- ****

I know that you ignored my ask about the system you listen on before, but you keep talking about improved new mastering/pressings. I trust you have something decent to listen on, even if you don't want to go there. No snark intended.

Sorry Jeff. I wasn't ignoring the question. It's more like, I'll get to it when I have a minute and then forgetting.

I have a modest set-up. A Denon mini-system with an Audio Technica AT LP 120 turntable and an Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge. I am very happy with it, though when we retire, my dream is a major upgrade. For now, this is just fine. (That Ortofon, by the way, made a world of difference over the AT cartridge that came with the table.)

As for the new mastering/pressings. I am mostly in awe of Kevin Gray. He has never disappointed. Most reissues are not better than the originals, at least to my ears. But Kevin Gray's work is something to behold, and I don't think you need a $30,000 system to hear it.

Denon makes nice stuff, and I am sure the cartridge upgrade to the Ortofon made a big difference. I certainly agree that a $30000 system isn't needed to hear differences between sources/remasters, etc., especially with good ears. I recently received some birthday gift certificates at vinyl outlets and wasn't sure what I wanted, so the Kevin Gray news will help me pick some goodies for the stacks. Cheers!

Re: Hendrix - Is Axis the album best experienced in MONO? What about AYE or EL?
Grateful for the guidance. While I always have appreciated Jimi’s music, I never loved it until I had better equipment and could fully hear what he and the band were doing. Thanks!:)

I prefer AXIS in MONO and AYE in stereo. There is no official Ladyland iin MONO. And any AYE that I've heard in MONO have been a mess.
