Have you listened to anything from Geordie Greep’s solo album The New Sound? Saw an interview with St. Vincent that she was a fan, as well as sharing a shared love for Steely Dan. There are moments where I can hear a Donald Fagen influence. I found it an interesting and fun album.

I did listen. It was first recommended by a friend and then I saw that same St. Vincent piece. But the music didn't take. I lost patience about halfway through. I might try again at some point.
I’ve been meaning to take another listen to the Cale album. Hoping for the same reaction as you.
Somewhat related: I had a longish drive a couple weeks ago and listened to the two most recent Richard Thompson albums back to back. I liked them both and was kind of surprised that Ship To Shore came out as the better album. A better batch of songs, I think.
Re: Geordie Greep. Yeah, I couldn’t really make it through the complete album. I found it to be a hard listen.
It’s Not You, It’s Me department: there’s something going on with my desktop computer where I’m unable to reply to posts. I hit reply after typing in my pearls of wisdom and get an immediate message “uh oh, looks like something went wrong. Try again.” I’ve restarted and everything. Time for a new computer, I guess. (Shrug emoji)
Thanks for Culture, Bob & Marcia, and Michael McDonald. A wonderful listening experience. :)
Haven't watched yacht rock doc. They got a lot wrong? Taste wise or fact wise? My two bits (for some reason I was trying to define yacht rock for myself in the shower) is that it's the rich production sound of the late 1970s early 1980s. Not subject matter as such. (Not about dickish rich people, for example.) That's my feel.
First and foremost is the inclusion of Steely Dan, simply because of Michael McDonald's affiliation. Also, The Doobies Brothers were never a "yacht rock" band, but again, once McDonald joined up, their sound changed. It also irked me that Christopher Cross was not only a featured talking head, but that they made him out to be this legend. He had one huge record, one semi-huge record, and 40 years of nothing. It just wasn't a very good film.
