12/13/25

Noro Morales- Walter Winchell Rhumba (2000)-****
(Recorded 1942-1949, excellent collection of Latin and Cuban big band rhumba. Thanks to pmac for the tip.)

Allen Toussaint- The Bright Mississippi (2009)- ***
Prince Buster– Sings His Hit Song Ten Commandments (1967)- ****
Irma Thomas- Love Is The Foundation (2020)- ****

The Jesus And Mary Chain- Psychocandy (1985)- **12
(I can't believe I once loved this record. Once I love something, I rarely grow out of it. But this spin annoyed the hell out of me.)

The Mavericks- Trampoline (1995)- ***1/2
World Party- Bang! (1993)- ****
Blue Oyster Cult- Secret Treaties (1974)- ****
Ramones- One Two Three Four: A Burning Wood Playlist (2025)- ****

Happy Mondays- The Factory Singles (2025)- **
(Missed out on these guys first time around, so I went into this collection fresh. This band is truly horrible. I don't get it.)

The Rolling Stones- Live At L'Abbatoir, Paris: 6/6/76 (2025)- ***1/2
(This club date taken from the Blu Ray in the big "Black & Blue" box is a helluva lot better than the full length arena show that is also in the box. Band is more inspired and Mick is singing more than barking.)

Faces- Ooh La La: Kevin Gray Master (1973/2025) - ****
Dave Edmunds- Repeat When Necessary (1979)- ****

Ooh La La is such a fun album. About the Rolling Stones, they just showed Live at the Max or whatever, one of the many Stones concert films. You should rate the movies for your fans: spoiler, I was bored by the Scorsese film.

We haven't talked much about Raul Malo's passing here. Man, that dude had some pipes. I especially loved his take on the slower covers.

While Ooh La La doesn't rock the way some of the earlier Faces albums do, agree with Michael that it's a fun album, with Ronnie Lane and Mac leading the show. My favorite Faces album.

And 100% agree on the Happy Mondays. I never got them, even though I tried a couple of different times. And now I've stopped trying.

It's my favorite Faces album, as well. I rank them last to first.

As for Raul Malo, I always have trouble when an artist or celebrity or sports figure that means something to me passes. Social media becomes social ME-dia, with everyone starting their "tributes" with "I was lucky enough to..." see, hear, eat lunch with, etcetera. It seems like the perfect window for people to "impress" and it always makes me angry. So I end up saying nothing.

Some of the best live concerts I ever saw were the Mavericks. I'm very bummed and will miss him.

Noro Morales. Where did you hear the Walter Winchell album? I see vinyl on Amazon but not the album on streaming. Also, his key album per Wikiepedia doesn't seem to be on Amazon Music, which is annoying: his "lush" 1952 album "Mambo With Noro" 10 inch is "a landmark in conjunto Latin music."

Cast- All Change (1995)- *** (I remembered why I didn't remember this record. It's kinda flat. Nothing terrible, but no great songs ...
