Göran Söllscher- Here, There And Everywhere: Söllscher Plays The Beatles- ***1/2
(Discovered this over at Steve's place. Some of it is stunning. Some of it doesn't work. Might have been better at 40 minutes instead of 55 minutes.)

Nara Leao- Nara '67- ****
Joshua Redman- Words Fall Short-***1/2

Sly Stone- High On You- ****
(Listening to this thinking, this may be the first time I am actually hearing this solo record. And how I didn't realize De La Soul sampled "Crossword Puzzle" for "Say No Go" is beyond me. This album is pretty damn good.)

Bruce Springsteen- Inyo-***1/2
(Record Five from Tracks II, "Inyo," has a wonderful sound throughout. It's not all mariachi, but Bruce sounds more comfortable here than he does singing on that "Nashville" record. My one complaint is his over-affected vocals. He lays on the Okie so hard, I can't follow the stories he's telling, which I imagine would make some of these tracks more powerful to my ears. Still, I enjoyed "Inyo." Nice surprise.)

Sparks- Mad!- ***1/2

Free- Tons Of Sobs-***1/2
(Solid debut, but the follow-up was even better.)

The Babys- On The Edge- ****1/2
(John Waite is arguably one of the five best rock and roll singers of all time. This record has at least four masterpieces of record making- "Turn & Walk Away," "She's My Girl," "Postcard," and "Dark Side Of Town.")

U.F.O.- No Heavy Petting-***1/2
Pretenders- S/T-****
Thin Lizzy- Fighting-****

No Heavy Petting - not the best UFO album, though not bad either. The Schenker years were mostly worth a few spins and often outstanding.
Pretenders first is a classic, as is the Lizzy.
Will give High On You a go since I've so far ignored Sly's solo work.

I know I won't be alone in being very relieved to see Now Playing is still appearing - I love the way it sends me to new things (as do both Record of The Week sections) and reminds of essential music I haven't listened to for some time. I appreciate the effort you make daily.

I always thought The Babys had great singles. Essentially resurrected at the end of the eighties as Bad English (3 of 5), where they had more commercial success. Lots of suggestions from your playlist - looks like it’s a good day. Thanks for all you do. :)

Enjoying the Springsteen recap. As I kind of expected, they were mostly detours and not wholly successful, but interesting. Released in the right wayb to keep pressure off any one album but getting it out there because why leave that for the estate? I will check out the Babys. I know your love of John Waite. I would be Missing You at Burning Wood so glad you're doing this. Shh, only the cool people hang out here.

Cast- All Change (1995)- *** (I remembered why I didn't remember this record. It's kinda flat. Nothing terrible, but no great songs ...
