I love that first Boston album. It’s perfect. They’re the first band I went to see in concert.

Never understood why the Piety Street lp didn't get more fanfare. Around 2019, Scofield and Cleary did a duo tour through the EU and it was incredible.
pmac,
An old industry friend of mine and a guy who has been very plugged into New Orleans since the early 80's, thought the "Piety Street" record was a failure. When I asked why, he said, "Because Scofield didn't let the New Orleans guys do their thing." As much as I like this record, and the live show from that tour, I can hear just what he's talking about. In a city full of amazing drummers, you pick Ricky Fataar to play with George Porter Jr.? Fataar is a fine drummer, but not so fine where Shannon Powell is relegated to tambourine.
But, it was a Scofield lp. I think that is what holds back NO music from getting better recognition. Toussaint had The Meters backing up everything and everyone - Robert Palmer, Poynter Sisters, etc. Kept those guys busy and with money. Sure, I would have liked for it to have been a Cleary, or Boutte, lp with Scofield on guitar, but they guy who had the ability to bring in a bigger audience at that time was Scofield.
I get what you are saying, and I don't completely disagree. But maybe the record didn't take off because it had all of those great N.O. guys on the cover and the record doesn't sound like those guys.
