Mississippi Sheiks- Stop And Listen- ***1/2
(After really enjoying Dylan's "World Gone Wrong" last week, especially the track "Blood in My Eyes," I decided to go to the source. This is a great collection, perfect for a Sunday morning.)

Bonnie Raitt- Souls Alike- ****
(Many great records, especially early on and during the first part of her comeback. But this remains my favorite.)

The New Orleans Bingo! Show- Volume 1: Soft Emergencies- *** 1/2
(One of the greatest live acts I have ever seen in New Orleans. Records are solid, but pale in comparison to the perfomances. Good to hear this one, though. It's been awhile.)

Dr. John- Locked Down- ****1/2
(Dan Auerbach's finest hour.)

Badfinger- Personal Playlist- ****
David Ruffin- My Whole World Ended- ****

Jellyfish- Spilt Milk- ****1/2
(How good is the first Jellyfish album? It's so good that this follow-up, which is fantastic, just isn't as good.)

v/a- Rap For The Faint of Heart: A Classic Burning Wood Weekend Mix-*****
(This was posted on BW in December of 2018 and it went over surprisingly well.)

How did I miss Souls Alike? It’s among tomorrow’s listening.

Yesterday I gave the live set from King of America super deluxe a spin. Fabulous!

It may be that I heard Spilt Milk before Bellybutton, but I prefer it slightly. Wow, those are two fantastic albums!

The New Orleans Bingo! Show -- wow, that's saying something! One of your favorite live acts in New Orleans (which is to say, anywhere). One more reason to visit.

Oh and how do you judge a playlist going over well? Total downloads? Comments? Both?

They stopped performing, maybe 20 years ago. It was performance art, a circus act behind Clint Maedgen's songs. Maedgen's since played sax in the Preservation Hall Band.

Any thoughts on the SB Halftime show? I thought it was a pretty awesome performance - and all the Easter eggs! Crazy. Lol!

Thanks for the reminders on Dr. John, Jellyfish, and David Ruffin (eternal gratitude for turning me onto this album!).

Thanks for all you do, sir. :)

I appreciated the half time performance more the next morning.

The keyboard player for Bingo is a friend of mine. He now lives in Colorado, but after Bingo and before his exodus from NO, he had a 7 piece vocal band that was amazing - called either the St Cecilia Asylum Chorus, or later just the Asylum Chorus. They have 4 eps out on the streams, but ultimately died off because the economics of a 10 piece band (7 vocalists and 3 instrumentalists) in NO is not going to happen (most venues pay no more than 100 for the entire band for a 4 hour gig, plus whatever you can get in the tip bucket).
