10/23/24

James Blood Ulmer- Black Rock
(Just as BBJ described. Ferocious!)

Scotty- School-Days
(It's been a while since I played this one. Highly recommended if you are not afraid of the reggae.)

Toots & The Maytals- Reggae Got Soul
v/a- Down & Out: The Sad Soul Of The Black South
Derringer- S/T

Trouble- S/T
(Legendary Rick Rubin.)

Free- Best Of

Nirvana- Incesticide
(Hot Take: Cobain wrote two songs, gave them each 20 different titles with a bunch of leftover lyrics, changed the arrangements ever so slightly, did drugs, killed himself and became a genius.)

Til Tuesday- Everything's Different Now
(Aimee's first masterpiece. I hope that reunion show is not just a one-off.)

Pete Townshend- Empty Glass

(Old reliable. Never fails.)

"Hot Take..." Sadly true.
Trouble and Scotty are both new to me. Will check them out.
Til Tuesday is superb pop music, as is Empty Glass.

On Tuesday, I got going on some B CD's for more great listening:
Bozzio Levin Stevens - Black Light Syndrome
David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust (Ryko 1990 edition)
Biily Bragg & Wilco - Mermaid Avenue 2
Brookly Funk Essentials - In the Buzzbag
Ray Brown, Monty Alexander, Russell Malone - S/T
Junior Brown - Semi-Crazy + Long Walk Back (home made two-fer)
Ruth Brown - Miss Rhythm (disc 1)

Wednesday continued the B's:
Kate Bush - The Red Shoes (better than I recalled)
Big Noise 2 (A Mambo Inn Compiliation)
Band of Horses - Infinite Arms
Beck - Sea Change
The Beat - I Just Can't Stop It
Igor Bezget - Works (lovely CDR from Slovenian jazz guitarist bought years ago at a festival)
Bruford Levin - Bruford Levin Upper Extremities
Charles Brown - Just a Luck So and So

- Paul in DK

1998, Bill Bruford, Tony Levin, David Torn and Chris Botti (!) set The Bottom Line on fire with a live performance that blew my hair back. I hadn't listened to this in ages and played it a few months ago. It sounded better than ever!

And I love "The Red Shoes!" I think I play that more than any other Kate record.

Thanks for the reminder on Trouble - love it every time I listen to it, which too often is only when you mention it in ‘Now Playing’. Shame on me.
I’ve got both Manic Frustration (1992), which is also a Rick Rubin production, and their debut Psalm 9 (1984), which Wikipedia references as one of the first doom metal albums, on deck for a first listen. Any thoughts on either of these?

Later will be Bruford Levin Upper Extremities. Think it’ll be a good day. :)

"Psalm" and "Manic" are both excellent, but "Trouble" is the one!
