I've been a fan of The Bride Stripped Bare pretty much since it came out. Can't Let Go is one of my Ferry songs, Roxy or Solo. And it was the album that introduced me to Carrickfergus.

Bill,
My experience is the opposite. I loved "In Your Mind" so much that I was crushed when he went back to more soul covers, though like you, I think "Can't Let Go" is one of his very best. Then about a year ago during a rehearsal with my band, my bassist Sal Maida, one time Roxy member, brought up the VU cover, which I totally forgot about. I asked, "Was it a b-side?" He said "It's on Bride Stripped Bare. You KNEW that!" (oops)

I decided to finally go back and listen and now I love it, especially the originals.

It took me a long time to warm to In Your Mind, so I guess we played the opposite game with these two albums. It took me a while to separate the individual songs on it. I like it now quite a bit, and in general prefer it to the later period Ferry, where I think a lot of the arrangements sound the same. I think the success of Avalon affected Ferry's songwriting/arranging in the same way that Gaucho affected Fagen's.
